Arts Residency / IndigiNow
April 1 @ 12:00 pm – May 15 @ 5:00 pm PDT
November 2022 to March 2023, Massy Arts Gallery will host IndigiNow, an arts residency program for emerging Indigenous visual artists, interdisciplinary artists, performers, and poets.
Interested applicants are invited to submit residency proposals that explore contemporary approaches to Indigenous cultural practices. IndigiNow aims to investigate how voices from Indigenous communities can establish critical and sensitive dialogues with our multiple communities of readers, viewers, and followers.
For this project, Massy Arts will provide: 1) gallery space for three (03) original exhibitions that experiment with visual arts, design, performing arts, cinema, or poetry; 2) assistance with organization, communication, press releases, registration and hosting of exhibition + related events; 3) venue for opening reception + workshop; 4) online room for virtual talk, performance or reading event.
IndigiNow will offer residencies according to the following schedule:
Slot A – Nov 15, 2022 to Jan, 12 2023 – Window Space (02 windows)
Slot B – Jan 17, 2023 to March 16, 2023 – Main Gallery Space
Slot C – Jan 17, 2023 to March 16, 2023 – Window Space (02 windows)
Each resident will be responsible for installing and uninstalling their own exhibitions – funds are available to assist with this, by application.
As a form of compensation for the exhibition itself, Massy Arts will: 1) offer assistance with one (01) paid event or workshop without charging organization fees, compensating artists with commission from full ticket prices; 2) provide 100% of the funds from all sales if the artist should choose to sell their work.
The Massy Arts Society is a community hub dedicated to supporting the practices of Indigenous and over-excluded artists. Our programming is extensive in its multiple forms: talks, debates, book launches, art shows, performances, concerts, fairs, and many others.
Since September 2021, the Massy Arts Gallery is our in-person exhibition space and cultural venue in 23 East Pender St, in Vancouver’s Chinatown.
Submissions will be accepted between April 01 and May 15, 2022.
Artists will be contacted with feedback by June 14, 2022.
