Crit Night hosted by Nico McGiffin

May 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm PDT

On Wednesday, May 22nd, from 6pm to 8pm, join Massy Arts Society for the first Crit Night facilitated by artist Nico McGiffin.

Crit Night is a free, open-to-all, community-run event for Vancouver’s local visual and media artists to come together and exchange feedback on their artwork and ideas. The goal of this event is to bring working artists together in critical discourse, giving them an opportunity to hash out ideas and take a second look at their work before exhibition, market, or sale.

What are the ground rules?

The purpose of Crit Night is to give each other the feedback we deserve!  A critique is not a personal attack, feedback is integral to everyone’s growth as an artist.

At the beginning of each critique, artists will be asked if they want a cold read or if they’d like to provide some initial context.

Reciprocity is key! Let’s try our best to participate in an authentic, thoughtful way. It’s important that all artists seeking feedback also give comments to their fellow artists.

Crit Night is not an opportunity to tear others down. This is not a space for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any type of hateful commentary. We aim to have productive, difficult, and critical conversations with each other as cultural workers. Anyone who is persistently offensive, aggressive, or hateful will be asked to leave.
