Group Bio:

We are a diverse group of South Asian women and non-binary poets that have come together across different events and literary spaces not only to find solace and validation in each other’s words but to hear within ourselves the diverse experiences and perspectives of an immense diaspora. Often BIPOC voices are lumped into a single, tokenized representation of a diaspora of hundreds of millions of people. We seek to break this limited and narrow view of the South Asian diaspora and provide representation to all the different facets of being within it.

Anthology:

Our Maza: Digital Anthology is an exciting new project that centres the lived experiences of South Asian brown gender marginalized (including but not limited to: nonbinary, queer, femme, and women) stories and voices, and other intersections they may hold.

Maza collective has come together across different events and literary spaces to break the limited and narrow view of the South Asian diaspora This project weaves a distinct narrative that at once celebrates the group’s individual and diverse experiences.

The 18 poems in Our Maza: Digital Anthology were selected by Maza Collective’s Cassandra Myers and Qurat Dar. The project ranges from written poetry to audio-visual presentations by Maza members. During the event all the videos included in the anthology, including from Anjalica Solomon, Franz Seachel, Kiran Kaur, Cassandra Myers, Qurat Dar and Namitha Rathinappillai will be screened, followed by a reading of selected poems.

The event is hosted by Franz Seachel and Anjalica Solomon.
