Gallery Exhibition / “How Water Remembers” by Laiwan

Dec 21st - Feb 24th, Massy Arts will host a new window installation by Vancouver-based interdisciplinary artist, writer and educator Laiwan. In collaboration with City of Vancouver biologist Angela Danyluk, "How Water Remembers" is a project that explores the path of water and future rising sea levels, with a relation to cultural stories.

From Dec 21st to Feb 24th, the Massy Arts Gallery hosts a new show by emerging Anishinaabe visual artist and writer Mike Alexander. “We Are the Land, We Are the Water” is a visual investigation of a quiet search amongst the rubble of colonization, and showcases ten new pieces by the artist.

Feb 08 – Mar 31, Massy Arts will host a new window installation by Ecuadorian visual artist Esteban Pérez. In the series of paintings entitled “Unfinished Marks”, the artist was inspired by walking practices that seeked, through the body, to learn about this place called Vancouver in its colonial statement.

Feb 08 – Mar 31, Massy Arts will host a new window piece by Vancouver-based visual artist Pippa Cherniavsky. In her quilt installation entitled “Home”, the artist was inspired by the idea of this symbolic place or estate where souls are gathered.

On Tuesday, Feb 08 at 2:30pm, join Massy Books, Penguin Random House Canada and Vancouver-based #1 New York Times bestselling sci-fi & fantasy author Xiran Jay Zhao for the in-person book signing of their book: Iron Widow (2021, Penguin Random House).

CHASING THE POEM / A Virtual Workshop Marathon for Emerging Poets

From Tuesday, Feb 22, to Tuesday, Mar 15, Massy Arts and Massy Books host a virtual poetry workshop marathon for emerging writers, in four courses created by published Canadian poets to demystify poetry writing, to present useful writing prompts, to incite imagination, and to address political and linguistic points of view through poetic literature.

Book Launch / “Métis Now: Elders, Artists, and Activists” by Nevada Christianson

On Tuesday, March 1st at 5pm, join Massy Arts, and Métis artist Nevada Christianson for the in-person launch of her book: "Métis Now: Elders, Artists, and Activists" (2022, Hemlock Press). The publication is a collection of digital illustrations that investigate portraiture as a form of activism to shine a light on inspiring members of the Indigenous community.

Massy Reads / On Interdisciplinary Approaches to Film

Tuesday, March 1st at 6pm, join Massy Books, Massy Arts and UBC's Public Humanities Hub for the virtual event "Massy Reads / On Interdisciplinary Approaches to Film", a conversation between authors Kyle Frackman, Ervin Malakaj, and Christopher Rea.
