Gallery Exhibition / “開 門 ( Open )” by Angela Lai

From Nov 17th to Dec 14th, the Massy Arts Gallery hosts a new window exhibition: “開 門 ( Open )” by Vancouver-based artist Angela Lai. The installation is a site-specific piece that utilizes discarded material from garments that have history from the artist's family, and relate to Chinatown. At the exhibition, the materials are arranged and pieced together to form a three-dimensional portrait of the neighborhood.

On Nov 18th (Thursday), at 6pm, join Massy Arts in a literary double-launch: Beauty, Politics, Poetics: Rahat Kurd and Marguerite Pigeon in Conversation. At the event, Marguerite Pigeon's "The Endless Garment" (2021, Wolsak & Wynn) and Rahat Kurd's "The City that is Leaving Forever" (2021, Talon) will be introduced to the audience in an intimate conversation about their works and artistic processes.

On Friday, Nov 26th at 6:30PM, join Massy Arts and Massy Books for the in-person launch of "Avenue of Champions", a novel by Métis/Ukrainian educator, and writer Conor Kerr. At the occasion, the author will be joined by poet Molly Cross-Blanchard for a conversation about the inventive style of the title, the author's writing process, the connection of Indigenous Peoples to the land, and the permanence of culture, language and ceremony as a form of resistance to displacement.

On Tuesday, Nov 30th at 6:00PM, join Massy Arts and Massy Books for the in-person launch of “Mischief Making: Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, Art, and the Seriousness of Play” by Nicola Levell, an illustrated exploration of the art of Indigneous award-winning visual artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas.
