KPU Creative Writing Alumni Reading Showcase

Please join us for our first annual reading by alumni from Kwantlen Polytechnic University's creative writing degree program! Established over ten years ago, our mentorship-based degree program features poetry, fiction, nonfiction, screenwriting and new media streams, supports interdisciplinary inquiry and facilitates critical awareness, cultural sensitivity, social responsibility, civic engagement, and global citizenship. OUr department is now proud to present this new generation of poets, writers and interdisciplinary artists who have studied with us and variously contributed to the creative and intellectual vitality of our community.

Valley of the Birdtail with Andrew Stobo Sniderman + Douglas Sanderson

On Monday, March 6th at 6pm, join Massy Arts Society, Massy Books and Harper Collins for the launch of this multigenerational tale: Valley of the Birdtail by Andrew Stobo Sniderman and Douglas Sanderson (Amo Binashii).

Spanning generations, Valley of the Birdtail brings together two families, one white and one Indigenous, and weaves their lives into the larger story of Canada. In conversation with Emilie Lahaie, partner in the Aboriginal Law Group at Cassels, this evening delves into these narratives of these two communities—separate and unequal—and how they create a layered story about community, history and reconciliation.

Still Life Workshop / Drawing Negative Space with Mehran Modarres-Sadeghi

On Saturday, March 11 at 1pm, join Massy Arts and Iranian-Canadian visual artist Mehran Modarres-Sadeghi for the in-person still life workshop, Drawing Negative Space. In this introductory course, attendees will develop skills in drawing objects from observation using various drawing materials such as graphite pencils, charcoal sticks, and India ink/watercolor paints.

Closing Reception / The Cedar Sage and Sweetgrass Indigenous Art Show

On Saturday, March 11th at 6pm, join Massy Arts Society for the closing reception of The Cedar Sage and Sweetgrass Indigenous Art Show, a new window exhibition organized by Cedar Sage and Sweetgrass, an eclectic community of indigenous artists working with unique perspectives from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
